Elizabeth Morgan, Betty, my mother, was what she called “Old Llandudno” and was very proud to tell people that her great great grandfather was Richard Hughes, the man who built The Marine Drive. She was born on The Orme and lived there for many years before moving to The West Shore. She married my father, Fred, in 1952 and they had 62 wonderful years together before he passed. They had some sadness in their lives, especially when they lost my 14 year old brother Brian, whom she missed every single day. Despite this they remained solid and made my childhood a very happy one.
In her time she was a Chorus Girl, a Cinema Usherette, a Civil Service Typist, a Bar Maid, a School Dinner Lady, a Bookkeeper, a Building Society Cashier - where she was held up at gun point -, and a Photographic Studio Assistant. She was clever and loyal and funny. She could hold a grudge like you wouldn’t believe but if she loved you, and there are so many of you that she did, you had a real friend for life. She was a loving aunt to Susan, Bobby, and Steven, and grieved the loss of their father, her brother John, till the very end. She was so proud of her grandchildren Thomas and Elizabeth, and of my wife Arayna, and was always delighted to tell her friends how we were all getting on. She was all these things and more but to me she was simply my mum and I will be forever grateful to have had her as my friend for as long as I did.
